What is "Where's The Gig"?
A convenient web-based information system for your band.
- For The Band Leader
- Lets you provide, in less than a minute, all the gig information
to your band members including load in, sound check,
gig times, outfits, setlists, even a map to the gig!
- Automatically creates an up-to-date gig schedule for your band.
No more typing out schedules, emailing, or telephoning all your
band members when a gig status changes.
For example, as soon as an unconfirmed gig becomes confirmed, your band members
have access to the new information the instant you update the gig status.
- Includes a Song/Set List Manager so you can provide performance information
to your band and integrate sets into your gig information.
- Automatically creates a band gig calendar for your fans that provides
the gig location, map, and performance times.
- Provides an Agent Services page so that booking
agencies can check your availability, conveniently inform you that your
band is being offered to a client, and to request promotional
materials.
- No need to be in the office. You can update your gig information from
any computer with internet access, or even from your PDA.
- Secure. Only you and the people you allow will have access to your band's
information.
- For Band Members
- Gives you up-to-the-minute information about the gig. Any last-minute
changes are available to you the instant management enters them on
your band's site. Just login and check before leaving for the gig.
- No more calling the band leader to see if that date on hold has been confirmed,
or if the first Friday of next month is booked.
The gig schedule is always up-to-date and available to you.
Why is "Where's The Gig"?
In short, this site is a good way for us to use the internet to make
the lives of our community of musicians a bit better. This application saves us time
because we don't have to call the whole band about gig-related information,
or use up valuable rehearsal time discussing the band schedule.
We can spend more time with our families, playing our instruments, or
marketing our bands.
This application gives us peace of mind. All the band members get all
the information. No more nagging thoughts on the way to the gig like "Did I remember
to tell Bill to bring the Hawaiian shirt?"
Who Did This?
I'm the keyboard player for The Fabulous Pelicans.
We are one fun band! And fairly big... and fairly busy... and one day I was thinking
how this would be a great application for our
band to have, and it was too bad that there wasn't one around.
I'm also a software engineer/geophysicist and I was thinking how I'd like
to learn Perl.
I showed a prototype of "Where's The Gig" to a friend at work who is in another
band and he flipped out saying how he'd love to have that for his band, too.
So with just a bit more work I made it available to any band with a web browser.
And that's about the whole story.
