The worldwide online video market is experiencing dramatic growth, according to high-tech market research firm In-Stat, with worldwide online video revenue expected to eclipse $4.5 billion by 2012, up from $1.2 billion in 2008. Purchased/rented videos are expected to offer the most robust growth for online video in the near term, in a large part due to an increase in subscription services such as Netflix. |

Blu-ray Disc sales in the UK have now passed the 2 million sales mark, according to figures released from the British Video Association. In 2008 alone, the format has sold 1.2 million copies and volume sales are 458% up year to date on 2007. |

Recently released figures from Macrovision indicate that its recent acquisition of Gemstar TV Guide International helped the company achieve good profit growth in Q2 of this year. Including the Gemstar figures, Macrovision's net income rose from $2.5 million to $85.9 million, while second quarter revenue jumped from $23.4 million to $103.6 million. |

Organisers for ESCA (Entertainment Supply Chain Academy), which goes to Prague this year for the second Europe event, have started to release more programme and speaker information. The event takes place on 2-3 October in the Czech Republic's Hotel Dorint with a programme "centred on the European marketplace and designed to help build efficiencies in the delivery of physical media, as well as forge the future infrastructure for the delivery of digital media". |
